I don't know why I'm surprised. I was in the park again at the weekend and saw mothers smoke in front of ther children. It's disgraceful. Don't they have any shame?! I can't understand it. People have so much knowledge about how to stop smoking cigarettes.

It seriously makes me wonder about whether these same women ever bothered to give up this disgusting habit whilst pregnant. It wouldn't surprise me to find out that they were still smoking like a chimney whilst carrying their little ones in the womb.

When pregnant women smoke their children have an increased chance for being born underweight, stillborn and also having retarded growth. Why would anyone increase the chances of these things happening to their kids?

There are statistics published about the number of women who smoke whilst pregnant but I have to wonder where these statistics come from. Who collects these statistcs and is it just a basic questionaire that's given out. These days it's considered to be socially unacceptable to smoke whilst pregnant so there might be a lot of women simply not admitting to it.
